About the event

This training is designed to help leaders guide staff and volunteers through all aspects of the child abuse prevention program. Using materials developed by Christianity Today/Church Law and Tax, participants will be led through a comprehensive examination of practices that will strengthen their ability to protect the vulnerable people among us.

This training will help:

  • To increase awareness of the symptoms and consequences of child sexual abuse.
  • To underscore the ministry’s vulnerability to child sexual abuse.
  • To create an understanding of liability concerns and ministry policy guidelines pertaining to screening, supervision, and reporting.
  • To provide instruction on worker selection and worker training.
  • To train children’s/youth ministry workers on your child protection principles.
  • To inspire ministry workers to keep kids safe at church.
  • To consider ways that this information can be applied to other vulnerable members of our congregational community as well.

Who should attend?

  • All paid or volunteer ministry leaders who oversee children or youth activities and all workers of programs geared toward children and youth—whether full-time or occasional
  • Pastoral staff members of the congregation
  • Members of any leadership teams responsible for developing, evaluating, and implementing policies and procedures in the church

Requirements:

  • This class will only be available as a virtual experience in which participants will be watching videos, engaging in discussion, and breaking into small groups online.
  • Registrants will receive a free, downloadable training workbook for use during the class. You must be able to download and view a PDF document on your computer (i.e., use Adobe Acrobat Reader). Ability to print the workbook will be helpful.
  • Other free resources will be available (sample forms and templates) for download and use in your own setting.

Registration Information and Cost:

  • Donation requested of your chosen amount. This donation, over and above any other financial contribution you may make to the region, helps support ABCRGR and make more such events possible.
  • Registration is set up for one person per registratio process. If two or more people are going to be sharing a single computer/access point, they should choose one person to register for the group. If a group from a church would like to participate in person as a group with a single access point (IOW, gathering in a church conference room equipped for Zoom), you are welcome to. However, be aware that you will need sufficient access to easily see and hear the videos and enter into the conversation with the rest of the group online. Please email office@abcrgr.org if you will be participating in this manner so Rev. Dr. Hasenauer can be prepared to facilitate accordingly. Please consider the number of people on whose behalf you are registering when determining the amount of your donation to the region.
